Hope this does not come across as a plug, but I think the app has potential (its free/oss). You could definitely make a pretty easy patch that polls for weather and displays it as text (or, as animated images), displays the time and shows some simple status monitoring info. It uses Quartz Composer documents to display information in a floating window either at desktop or screen saver level (meaning above or below everything). You could do this with Borderless, which is an open source Quartz Composer based 'ambient information visualizer' that I wrote as a one off programming project. Linux has Conky, Windows has Samurize, but is there anything out there for OS X that fits the bill? What are some of the system monitoring favorites here in the Mac Ach? Thanks for any info. What I'm looking for is something that can not only perform system monitoring, but also display the weather, time, calendar, etc. I know there are several OS X system monitoring tools out there (e.g., iStat, iPulse, GeekTool, etc.), but is there anything out there that is as flexible (and pretty) as Conky on Linux? It doesn't look like there's a Conky port on OS X, or if there is, I'm not finding it.
